Shipping a standard warehouse forklift is usually straightforward.

A 20 ton, 30 ton or larger heavy duty forklift is different.

The machine may be too large or too heavy for normal container loading, and some components may need to be removed before transport.

For this reason, shipping should be considered before production is completely finished.

The first step is checking the forklift's:

• overall length
• overall width
• overall height
• operating weight
• mast dimensions
• attachment size

These figures help determine which transport method is practical.

Depending on the forklift, shipment may involve a flat rack container, separate containers, Ro-Ro service or breakbulk transport.

The final method depends on machine size, destination and available shipping routes.

For large forklifts, removing certain parts can reduce transport height or make loading easier.

Depending on the machine, detachable components may include:

• mast
• forks
• fork carriage
• counterweight
• other attachments

This does not mean every heavy duty forklift is shipped in the same way.

The transport plan should be based on the actual machine dimensions.

Before shipment, exposed hydraulic connections and vulnerable parts need suitable protection.

Loose components should also be secured to prevent movement during transportation.

For machines shipped with removed attachments, the parts need to be clearly matched with the forklift so reassembly at destination is easier.

For a large forklift project, ocean freight can vary significantly according to the transport method.

This is why we prefer to confirm the machine configuration first and then check the most suitable shipping arrangement.

A change in mast height, attachment size or overall dimensions may also change the shipping plan.

For heavy duty forklifts, logistics should not be treated as the final step after production.
