Product Details

The 3 Ton Counterbalance Forklift is a CPC(D)30 seated diesel truck with the mast and forks positioned at the front of the chassis and the counterweight at the rear. Unlike a straddle-type stacker, this conventional counterbalance design does not require forward-extending support legs alongside the load.

The truck carries its load ahead of the front axle, with the rear counterweight forming part of the machine's balancing structure. The front and rear ends have different roles during operation. The fork end is used to approach and position the load, while the main body and rear section still need their own working space, particularly when the truck changes direction.

The Forks Work Ahead of the Truck

The forks enter the load first. The rest of the forklift follows only as far as the job requires.

At a pallet position, for example, there may be enough room for the forks to enter but not enough room for the truck to approach from the intended direction. The driver has to consider the mast and the front of the chassis, not just the fork tips.

This is one of the practical points with a conventional counterbalance layout. There are no forward straddle legs beside the forks, but the forklift body remains behind the load.

The same applies when putting a pallet down. After lowering it, the operator still needs a clear path to withdraw the forks without disturbing the load or nearby goods.

The front end does the lifting work. It does not represent the full space the machine needs.

Remember the Rear Counterweight

A driver looking toward the forks may have a good view of the load while paying less attention to the space behind the seat.

The rear of a counterbalance forklift is particularly important when turning.

On the 3 Ton Counterbalance Forklift, the counterweight occupies the back of the vehicle. As the truck steers, the rear section follows a swept path that needs clearance from nearby objects.

This becomes noticeable beside fixed machinery, warehouse columns or goods stored close to a turning position. The front of the truck may have passed an obstacle while the rear has not yet cleared it.

It is worth checking the whole vehicle movement, especially when turning away from a loading position.

The specified turning radius is useful machine data, but it should not be mistaken for the complete space required for every loaded manoeuvre.

FAQ

Q1. Can additional counterweight be installed to increase the forklift's lifting capacity?

Additional weight should not be fitted simply to raise the rated capacity. The counterweight is part of the forklift's designed configuration, and changing it can affect axle loading, braking and other operating characteristics. Any modification involving the counterweight or rated capacity requires proper engineering assessment and manufacturer approval.

Q2. What should be checked before installing a new forklift attachment?

The attachment must be compatible with the carriage and hydraulic arrangement where applicable. Its own weight, forward projection and effect on the load centre also need to be considered, since an attachment can reduce the forklift's available lifting capacity. The final combination should be reviewed and its applicable capacity established before use.

Q3. What is the load backrest height for this CPC(D)30?

The technical specification lists a load backrest height of 1,215 mm, measured from the upper surface of the fork carriage as indicated in the supplied data. The load backrest is different from the overhead guard, which protects the operator area. The required load-restraint arrangement should be checked for the goods being handled.
